Elevated Tents, Open Decks, Long Views

There are eleven tents at Ghoha Hills Savuti and no more, which is the point of the place. Each one is set on the slope with enough distance from the next that the deck feels private, and each faces out across an active waterhole toward the 180 degree sweep of the Savuti Plains.

Inside, the fittings are unfussy and well made, set on lime-washed wooden floors. The en-suite bathroom carries a double vanity with the toilet and shower kept separate, and the bathroom amenities are eco-friendly, insect repellent among them. Gowns, slippers, good linen and a mosquito net are standard in every suite.

Nine suites are built for two, taking either a super king bed or twin beds. The remaining two are family suites, with an interleading second room that sleeps a further two. Whichever you book, the deck and the view are the room’s best feature, and most guests spend more time on it than inside.

Two of the eleven suites are built for families and small groups. The main bedroom takes a super king bed and carries the en-suite bathroom, with an interleading second room holding two single beds alongside it. The viewing deck is shared, so the waterhole and the plains stay in sight wherever everyone settles.

Each suite has a ceiling fan and a standing fan, with the tent’s open sides and the elevated position of the lodge drawing air through. Mornings and evenings in Savuti are cool for much of the year.

Yes. Every suite has power points for charging photographic equipment and phones, drawn from the lodge’s solar farm. A personal safe with its own digital setting and a flashlight are also provided in the room.

Yes. Ghoha Hills Savuti includes a daily laundry service for guests, which matters on a trip where luggage is limited to soft bags of 20kg per person on air transfers.

No. There is no telephone communication at Ghoha Hills Savuti and no in-room phone. The lodge keeps a satellite phone and a radio for emergencies, and each suite carries an air horn.
