Glamping on the Doorstep of the Kruger

Jackalberry Ridge sits in the bush at Marloth Park, on the southern edge of the Kruger National Park, where kudu, impala and warthog wander through the camp without anyone arranging it. More than 300 bird species have been recorded here, so the day tends to start with birdsong in the jackalberry trees long before anyone thinks about the car keys.

You stay in a self-catering safari tent built on a solid base with a brick bathroom, so the canvas gives you the sounds of the bush and the fittings give you a proper shower. Each tent has its own viewing deck, a splash pool, a lapa with braai facilities and a kitchen stocked to cook a full meal in. Choose an intimate tent for two, a family tent, or a maxi tent that sleeps eight, and the tents are serviced through the week so nobody spends the holiday cleaning.

Crocodile Bridge Gate is 20km away, which puts a full Big 5 day within easy reach and still gets you back for a swim. Between outings there is the communal pool, the jungle gym, the trampoline and a garden chess set, and campsites for guests who would rather bring the caravan. It is an easy base for the Lowveld, and a useful overnight stop on the way to Mozambique.

Yes. Every safari tent and campsite at Jackalberry Ridge is self-catering, with a fully equipped kitchen and braai facilities. There is no restaurant, bar or shop on the property, so guests are advised to shop before arriving in Marloth Park.

Kudu, impala, warthog and other small game move freely through Marloth Park and often through the grounds at Jackalberry Ridge. More than 300 bird species have been recorded in the area, and much of the viewing happens from your own deck.

It suits families well. Units range from tents for two up to maxi tents sleeping eight, and the resort has a communal pool, a jungle gym, a trampoline, a garden chess set and the Dream Xplorers kids programme. Camp cots are available on request.

Marloth Park, where Jackalberry Ridge is located, is a moderate risk malaria area. Speak to a healthcare professional before you travel for current advice on precautions and prophylaxis, and pack insect repellent for evenings outdoors.

The resort has a backup generator, run to a schedule that is shared with guests through the in-house WhatsApp group. Some services may pause during those periods, and a daily generator fuel levy can apply. The resort will confirm the current arrangement.
