Malkoha is a small lodge on a peninsula, and almost everything in it exists to put you closer to the lake or the forest: two swimming pools set against the iSimangaliso wetland, an outdoor bar and viewing deck angled at the sunset, a spa with the forest on one side and the water on the other, and a jetty that doubles as the arrival point and the launch point for everything that happens on the estuary.

Where do guests eat at Malkoha Lake St. Lucia?

Meals are served at the Lake View Restaurant above the estuary, at the lakeside boma on alternate evenings, and beneath the sand forest for the African High Tea. There is one kitchen behind all three, working to seasonal menus.

What happens at a boma dinner?

The evening opens with the call of the kudu horn and a hand-washing ritual with a bowl and calabash. Dinner comes off an open fire beside the lake, and on alternate nights Zulu song, drumming and storytelling carry the meal into the night.

Is there a spa at Malkoha?

Yes. The Dream Spa at Malkoha Lake St. Lucia sits between forest and lake and offers treatments drawn from natural botanicals. Treatments can be taken in the spa or brought to your chalet, and a short treatment can count as one of your daily curated activities.

Is there a swimming pool?

There are two swimming pools on the lodge terrace, set against the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, with an outdoor bar and viewing deck alongside. Swimming towels are available at reception.

Is there Wi-Fi and mobile signal at the lodge?

Wi-Fi is available in the chalets and public areas. There is a Vodacom tower on the property, so Vodacom coverage is good while other networks can be patchy on the Kwa-Nibela Peninsula.

What happens during load shedding?

The lodge runs a backup generator. Some services may pause while it is running, and there is no battery lighting if the generator itself fails, so reception will tell you what to expect on the day.

Where do I park?

Guests park securely on the mainland at False Bay before crossing to the lodge by ferry. Close your windows, lock the vehicle and take everything you need for the stay with you.

Is there a shop at the lodge?

There is a curio shop stocking travel essentials and local crafts. Malkoha Lake St. Lucia is a long way from the nearest town, so bring anything you cannot do without.
