Highland Run is reached from Lydenburg on the R36 towards Ohrigstad, turning onto gravel at the Finsbury and Highland Run sign and continuing through the Mount Anderson reserve gate. Full turn-by-turn directions from OR Tambo are on this page.

A vehicle with good ground clearance. The route into the Mount Anderson reserve runs on gravel road for well over twenty kilometres, and the same applies to any day trip out, since every outing means driving back through the reserve gate.

Check-in at Highland Run is from 15:00 and check-out before 10:00. Check-in after 21:00 is not permitted, because the reserve gate closes and arrivals after that cannot enter until the following morning.

There is no cellphone reception on the property itself. Reach the team by email or through 24hr Central Reservations on +27 (0)861 010 347, and the reception line is answered on weekdays during office hours.

Yes. A gate access pin is needed at the entrance to the reserve, so contact the resort beforehand to obtain the code. The gate can also be opened remotely by phone if you arrive without it.

A staff member hands over the keys on arrival at iNsomi House, and the house is sometimes left open for you. If you expect to arrive after 17:00, call ahead so that key collection can be arranged before you set off.

Directions

From OR Tambo International Airport

  • Take the R21 towards Boksburg and the East Rand.
  • Then take the N12 towards Emalahleni (Witbank).
  • This road becomes the N4 to Nelspruit. Please note that it is a toll road.
  • Continue on this route past Middelburg and take the Belfast turn-off (R33), then turn left.
  • Travel through Belfast town and at approximately the fifth stop street, turn right onto the R540 Dullstroom and Lydenburg Road. Please be careful of the potholes.
  • Travel through Lydenburg and follow the signs towards the R36 towards Ohrigstad.
  • Approximately 7km after leaving town, look out for the Finsbury and Highland Run sign and take a right turn onto a gravel road.
  • Follow this road for 7km to the first gate. It is accessible by vehicle with good ground clearance.
  • You will enter the Mount Anderson reserve through a gate, where you need to sign in. A gate fee is payable per vehicle, currently R100 and subject to change.
  • Continue 16km to the Highland Run gate.
  • Continue straight for approximately 1km and turn left at the sign saying Cottage.
  • Please phone Dean Hunter on +27 (0)82 908 4565 if you need to check in after 17:00, so that arrangements can be made for key collection.
