Cottages Built for a Whole Party

Highland Run puts you in one of two large cottages on the banks of the Spekboom River, well inside the Mount Anderson reserve. Both are self-catering and both are booked as whole units, which is what makes them work for a family, a fishing party or a group of friends who would rather share a kitchen table than a hotel corridor.

Inside, each cottage runs to a fully equipped kitchen opening onto a dining and lounge area with a fireplace, bedrooms with en suite bathrooms among them, and enough space that nobody is on top of anybody else. Outside there is a furnished patio, braai facilities, a covered carport and a wood-fired hot tub looking out over the valley.

Highly trained housekeepers see to your comfort during the stay, and clean linen and bath towels are provided. Firewood is supplied for the fireplace, and guests bring their own charcoal, firelighters, groceries and drinking water. There is no shop and no restaurant here, and no cellphone reception either.

I will definitely return to Highland Run Lodge. For the fly fisherman there are approximately 33 weirs in the beautiful Spekboom River that offers amazing trout fishing. Between the weirs, there are fast flowing streams for the more experienced fly fisherman to enjoy. The setting is stunning with mountains and cliffs all around. The perfect place for tranquility and getting back in touch with nature.

This was our second stay at Highland Run, and what a stunning Christmas it was. The Cottage is a perfect place for large groups with more than enough space to relax, braai and socialize.  Linen is perfectly clean and crisp, kitchen and common areas are always cleaned. And there are more than enough bathrooms for 10-12 people. The fishing was also excellent.

Highland Run has two self-catering cottages in the Spekboom Valley near Lydenburg. The Cottage sleeps up to ten guests and iNsomi House up to eight. Both have fully equipped kitchens, open-plan living areas with fireplaces and their own braai facilities.

Yes. Highly trained housekeepers see to both cottages, and clean linen and bath towels are provided. Housekeeping is limited on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and a housekeeper gratuity is compulsory. The team confirms the current amount at booking.

Yes. Highland Run is entirely self-catering and there is no shop, restaurant or bar on the property, which sits deep inside the Mount Anderson reserve. Bring your own groceries and your own drinking water, along with charcoal and firelighters.

Firewood is supplied so you can light the indoor fireplace and enjoy evening fires in the Spekboom Valley. Guests bring their own charcoal and firelighters for the braai. Wood for the hot tub can be bought from the resort.

The cottages at Highland Run are booked as whole units, which is what makes them work for families and groups travelling together. Check live availability and current rates for each cottage through the booking engine.

Both cottages have Wi-Fi and DSTV on selected channels. There is no cellphone reception anywhere on the property, so the Wi-Fi is the only connection, and the Wi-Fi password is posted at the entrance gate.
