Set Up So You Can Do Very Little

After a morning out in the reserve, the lodge is set up to let you do very little. The plunge pool and the pool table share the raised timber deck, the lounge has a stone fireplace that comes into its own in winter, and the boma waits for the evening. Because the lodge is not licensed and there is no shop on the reserve, guests bring their own drinks and their own meat, and the kitchen and braai facilities are there to be used.

Cool Off On The Raised Deck

The plunge pool sits on the raised timber deck, open to every guest and well placed for cooling off in the heat of the day. It looks straight out over the reserve, which makes it as much a spot for watching the valley as for swimming.

Where Everyone Ends Up

The main sun deck runs along the front of the lodge with a pool table set up under cover, so there is something to do as the afternoon runs out. It is the gathering point of the property, with the plunge pool at one end and the valley stretching out in front.

A Stone Fireplace That Earns Its Keep

When you are ready to leave your suite, the lounge has comfortable couches, a stone fireplace that earns its keep in winter and selected DSTV channels. It sits alongside the dining room, which makes it the natural place for a family to gather and catch up.

Where The Evening Happens

The boma and the braai areas are where the evening happens. The lodge assists with all braai requirements and provides the side dishes, so guests bring the meat and the marshmallows. The wood crackles, the valley goes quiet, and the day gets talked through properly.

Room To Run, And No Malaria

There is an outdoor play area for children within sight of the main deck, so parents can keep half an eye on things from a lounger. The reserve is malaria-free and there is open space around the lodge for children to run in.

Breakfast is served in the main dining room each morning from 08:00 to 09:30. There is also a communal dining room and a lapa area, which gives a larger group somewhere to sit down together at the end of a day spent out in the reserve.

Is there a swimming pool at Mount Savannah?

There is a plunge pool on the raised timber deck at Mount Savannah, open to all guests and well placed for cooling off after time out in the reserve. It is a plunge pool rather than a full-length swimming pool, and swimming towels are not provided.

Is there a restaurant or bar?

No. Mount Savannah is not licensed and has no bar or shop on the reserve. Breakfast is served in the main dining room, and guests bring their own alcohol and beverages along with meat for the braai.

Can we self-cater?

Yes. There is a fully equipped communal kitchen at the main lodge with generous fridge and storage space, along with braai areas and a boma. The lodge assists with braai requirements and provides side dishes with the evening meal.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, Wi-Fi is available in all units at Mount Savannah. Selected DSTV channels run in the guest lounge and in each suite, and a DVD player is available on request from reception.

What happens during load shedding?

Mount Savannah runs a backup generator during load shedding and Eskom outages. There is no battery-operated lighting as a further fallback, and some services may be limited while the generator is running, so ask at check-in what to expect.

Is there somewhere for children to play?

Yes. There is an outdoor kids’ play area within sight of the main deck, plus open space around the lodge. The reserve at Mount Savannah is malaria-free, and each suite has a sleeper couch suited to children under 12.
