Your Passport Is Your Way In

The Dream Xplorers passport is the way into the activities on offer at Stonehill River Lodge. The more activities a child completes, the more badges they earn, and enough badges wins a prize at the end of it.

Every Dream resort has its own passport, built around what that property actually has. At Stonehill that means the river, the trails and the play area, so the badges are earned outdoors and mostly with wet feet.

HOW IT WORKS

Three Steps, Starting at Reception

Every completed activity earns you a Kamo credit which your Dream Xplorer Champion will tick off on your profile so that you can keep track of what you have completed. Once you have earned enough Kamo credits to complete an activity category, you will earn a virtual badge and your profile will reflect that you have a prize voucher which you can redeem from your Dream Xplorers Champion. You can complete these categories at as many Dream Hotels & Resorts properties as you want.

Collect the passport. Sign-up happens on site, not online. Ask at reception when you check in and the children get their passports there and then.

Work through the activities. Each passport lists the activities available at that resort, run under the guidance of an activities champion.

Earn the badges. Completed activities earn badges, and enough badges earns a prize. The passport goes home with them either way.

Categories can be completed across as many Dream Hotels and Resorts properties as you like, so the passport travels with the family.

AT STONEHILL RIVER LODGE

What the Passport Sends Them Out To Do

The passport draws on what is already here: the river, the trails, the play area and the craft table. Reception will tell you which activities are running on the day and which of them need booking.

Archery

A supervised archery session runs Monday to Saturday with thirty arrows to a round, booked in advance at reception. It suits complete beginners, and it usually turns quietly competitive by the second end.

River Rafting

Rafting on the Breede runs through Levels 1 to 3 rapids with a qualified river guide, over one to two hours, and depends on the water level on the day. Bookings are taken in advance, Monday to Saturday.

An hour on a paddle board on the Breede River, available Monday to Saturday and booked at reception.

Fishing

Fishing rods and reels are hired from reception for twenty-four hour periods, and hooks, bait, sinkers and spinners are sold there too. The Breede runs the length of the property, so the walk to the water is short.

Bontebok National Park

The smallest of South Africa's national parks holds eland, springbok, zebra and the antelope it is named after, along with 126 bird species. The roads are easy to navigate and the Breede runs through it, which makes it good for a picnic, a ride or a hike.

Wildebraam Berry Estate

Wildebraam lies in the Hermitage Valley about 2km outside Swellendam. In November and December you can pick your own youngberries, blackberries and blueberries, and homemade liqueurs, jams, dessert syrups and chutneys are sold there.

Safety and supervision

Activities are run under the guidance of an activities champion.

At reception, on arrival. There is no online sign-up.

River rafting is accompanied by a qualified river guide and archery is supervised. Both are booked in advance at reception.

WHERE IT HAPPENS

The Dream Xplorers Clubhouse

The clubhouse holds a games room with foosball, gaming consoles, table tennis and air hockey, and is where the supervised sessions run. Arts and crafts, bug hunts, pond fishing, kids walks and movie nights with marshmallow roasting all run from here through the week.

* Babysitting is available by pre-booking as an optional extra and is not part of the badge programme.

FAQ

Dream Xplorers is the children’s programme that runs across Dream Hotels & Resorts properties. Children collect a passport, complete activities to earn badges, and can win prizes once they have earned enough of them. Every resort has its own passport.

Sign-up happens on site, not online. Little explorers collect their passport from reception at Stonehill River Lodge when they arrive, and work through the activities in it during the stay under the guidance of an activities champion.

The passport is collected at reception on arrival. Some activities inside it, such as archery and mountain biking, are paid activities at Stonehill River Lodge and are booked and paid for at reception in the usual way.

The programme is aimed at children staying at the resort. Speak to reception at Stonehill River Lodge on arrival about which activities suit your children’s ages, and about which ones a parent needs to be present for.

There is a playground with a trampoline and jungle gyms, a climbing wall, a labyrinth, an arts and crafts table and an outdoor chess set. Board games are kept at reception, and the swimming pool is cold water.
