The resort is laid out along the top of the pass, with the main building holding reception, the restaurant, the bars and the lounge, and the lawns dropping away below to the pool. The bar is well stocked with local beers and a good range of Cederberg wines, and it is where most evenings end up. It also hosts quiz nights, karaoke, cocktail evenings and beer, wine and rooibos tastings for groups staying at the resort.

A second, smaller bar off the main building, quieter than the Kloof Bar and handy when a conference or a function has the main space. Ask at reception which bar is open on the night you are staying.

Outdoor swimming pool

The main pool sits below the lawns with sun loungers and thatched umbrellas around it, and the whole valley laid out beyond. Swimming towels are handed out at reception, so there is no need to pack your own for the day.

Heated year round, to 25 degrees in winter and 30 in summer, which makes it the one facility that does not care what the weather is doing outside. It is a short walk from the hotel rooms and popular with families before dinner.

The resort’s spa offers facials, massages, body treatments, waxing, tints, and hands and feet, plus packages that combine several treatments. Bookings and enquiries go through the spa directly, and the full menu is at reception and in your room.

Two meeting rooms seat 60 delegates each and open into a single venue for up to 120, with a podium, a wireless HD projector and screen, surround sound, microphones, flip charts and Wi-Fi. Both open onto tiled patios and an outdoor braai and fire pit.

The same versatile indoor space takes 60 to 120 guests for a ceremony or reception, while the lawns hold up to 120 for an outdoor ceremony with the Cederberg behind you. A wooden gazebo with sheer draping is set up as the outdoor chapel.

Archery, Air Golf and the Road Beyond the Gate

Supervised sessions on the resort's own range, with fifteen standard bows supplied and an instructor walking you through holding the bow, aiming and firing at a static target. Suitable from about eight years old, and no experience is needed to take part.

Air Golf

A compressed air launcher sends the ball down the fairway instead of a club, which levels the playing field between anyone who golfs and anyone who does not. Set up on the lawns with the Olifants Valley spread out below the tee.

A nine hole mini golf course laid out through the resort's gardens, easy enough for small children and competitive enough to settle an argument. It is the most booked activity here and the one the Dream Xplorers reward ladder starts with.

Walking and Hiking Trails

Trails lead straight out from the resort into the fynbos along the top of the pass, with open landscape, big views back over Citrusdal and no gate to drive through first. Walk them at your own pace and tell reception which way you are heading.

Radio controlled cars run on a track at the resort, which turns out to hold the attention of adults for considerably longer than anyone expects. It is a good filler between a late breakfast and an afternoon at the pool.
