Avalon Springs has been refurbished in recent years and it shows in how the place is laid out. Overnight and timeshare guests now have around 1,800 square metres of the resort to themselves, including five pools and a super tube, behind a sliding gate that opens in the evenings so you get the run of the visitor side as well. There are new communal braais on the overnight side, and you are welcome to use the ones in the day visitor area too.

Hotel rooms and suites are sold on bed and breakfast, with breakfast served at Cogman’s Restaurant. The Avalon Suite, the Mountain Chalets and the timeshare apartments are self-catering, so you get a kitchen, cutlery and crockery, and somewhere of your own to braai. The chalets add an outdoor spa bath with loungers, which is worth knowing about in winter.

Access matters here, because the property climbs a hillside. The Garden Suites are on the ground floor, open onto the gardens and are the right choice for wheelchair users and anyone who would rather avoid stairs. The Mountain Chalets involve a climb and the timeshare apartment bathrooms are too small for a wheelchair, which is worth knowing before you book.

The hotel rooms and suites are sold on bed and breakfast, with breakfast at Cogman’s Restaurant. The Avalon Suite, the Mountain Chalets and the timeshare apartments are self-catering, with their own kitchens and somewhere to braai.

The Garden Suites. They sit on the ground floor and open directly onto the gardens. The Mountain Chalets are reached by stairs and the timeshare apartment bathrooms are too small for a wheelchair, so neither is suitable.

Yes. Every room, suite, chalet and apartment has air conditioning, a ceiling fan, Wi-Fi, DSTV on selected channels, a safe, a hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities and covered parking.

No. Occupancy limits at Avalon Springs are firm and include children of any age. Extra guests have to book separate accommodation at the standard rate, and if nothing is available they will be asked to make other arrangements.

A cleaning and breakage deposit is charged to your account on arrival for each self-catering unit. At check-out, call reception so a housekeeper can check the unit and your account can be closed off.

Bring your own if you can. Room and unit linen and bath towels are supplied, and swimming towels are available for hire at reception at Avalon Springs.
