Everything Sits Within a Short Walk of the Water

The whole property is arranged around the springs. Nine outdoor pools and an indoor pool take the water from Cogman’s Kloof, the waterslides and sprayers sit alongside the children’s pools and the activity centre, and the braai lawns, the spa and all four places to eat are close enough that nobody has to plan much. Overnight guests have their own stretch of it, roughly 1,800 square metres including five pools and a super tube, behind a gate that opens again in the evening.

THE HOT SPRINGS

Water That Arrives at 43 Degrees and Is Left Alone

The spring rises from fissures in the rock face into a cavern about five metres underground, from a source estimated at around three kilometres down, and the flow has held up through the worst droughts the area has seen. It filters itself on the way up through layers of rock strata and reaches the surface at 43 degrees, clear and clean with a near-perfect pH, carrying minerals and organic trace elements. That means it can be pumped straight into the pools and spa baths without being treated or changed. It cools as it travels, so each pool settles at its own temperature and you can move around until one suits you. For hygiene the water is chlorinated in the evenings, and it is drained off continuously and never recycled.

An indoor pool fed by the same warm, mineral-rich water from Cogman’s Kloof, which makes it the easy option in winter or when the weather turns.

WATERSLIDES AND SPRAYERS

The Loudest Corner of the Resort, Deliberately

Waterslides and water sprayers run beside the children’s pools on the day visitor side, close to the Beach Pool and the activity centre. A super tube was added in the refurbishment and sits inside the area set aside for overnight and timeshare guests.

Shallow Water From The Same Spring

Dedicated children’s pools sit among the nine outdoor hot spring pools and take the same water from Cogman’s Kloof. They are grouped with the water sprayers, the water slide and the activity centre on the day visitor side.

KIDS ACTIVITY CENTRE

Where The Children Go When They Are Done Swimming

The children’s activity centre moved to the day visitor side during the refurbishment and now sits close to the Beach Pool, the super tube and the water sprayers. Soccer, volleyball, chess and other family games run from here, alongside the Dream Xplorers programme.

BRAAI AND PICNIC AREAS

Gathering Space, With Separate Sections

Communal braai and picnic areas with separate sections for overnight guests and day visitors. A new braai facility was built on the overnight side during the refurbishment, and resident guests are welcome to use the day visitor braais as well.

COGMAN’S RESTAURANT

The Family Table at Avalon Springs

Cogman’s does a generous buffet breakfast and then runs a la carte through lunch and dinner, with plenty on the menu that children will actually eat and prices that will not spoil the day. The kitchen is Halaal-friendly: the meat comes from a Halaal-certified butcher, anything pork-based is prepared and served from a separate kitchen, and no alcohol goes into the cooking, though alcoholic drinks are served in the restaurant. Every wine on the list comes from a farm within 50km of Montagu, which takes in Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor, Montagu and Robertson.

The dedicated pool bar, opened in 2023, with a poolside food menu, cold drinks and fresh juice within reach of the water. Settle in for a sundowner and the local dassies usually come out onto the lawns to feed while you are there.

Follow a morning in the hot pools with a treatment. The spa is private, sits on the property and takes both overnight guests and day visitors, with a range of therapeutic massages and beauty treatments. It trades from 08:00 to 17:00 every day and booking ahead is essential.
